How God Poured Me

I caught a passing glimpse of myself
passing the mirror on the way out of the
bathroom
                        and realized
                        this wasn’t me

I marveled for the space of a breath
                        how God poured me
                                    into this strange
½ black ½ Germanic body
            with a bald brown head
and brow like a shelf of granite
                                    over uncertain eyes.
I realized for a profound moment
that this face I see
            is no more me
than the car I get into
                        in the morning.
